Snapped a rear derailleur hanger on a customer's bike and the dropout was toast too
Last Tuesday a guy dropped off a Trek Domane for a tune-up and I found the hanger was already bent, so I went to straighten it with my Park tool and it snapped clean off in my hand. Turns out the dropout itself was cracked underneath the paint and I never caught it on the intake check, which made me feel like a rookie. I called him up, told him straight what happened, and quoted $340 for a frame repair at a shop over in Boise that does aluminum welding. He was cool about it but I still ate the labor on the rest of the tune. Any of you got a trick for spotting a cracked dropout before you put pressure on the hanger tool?
