Took me 3 blown hubs to finally trust the $15 grease gun method
I used to swear by packing bearings by hand, but after three hubs failed in one season around Seattle, I watched a retired mechanic at a co-op show me how to use a cheap grease gun with a zerk fitting on the axle. He pumped until fresh grease pushed out the opposite side, and that was it, no disassembly needed. Has anyone else switched from hand packing to pressure greasing and seen their hub life stretch out?

Three blown hubs taught me the same lesson last summer, I was all about hand packing until I watched a buddy pump grease through the zerk and it just clicked. Now I do it every season and haven't touched a bearing since.
