Tried dish soap to seat a tubeless tire at the shop on 5th and got a bubble machine instead
Had a customer's 29er wheel that would not bead up for anything. A guy I used to work with swore by a capful of dish soap in a spray bottle, said it slides the bead right on. I soaked the thing down, hit it with the compressor, and it aired up in like 4 seconds flat. Felt like a genius for about 10 minutes. Then I went to wipe the rim and the soap had foamed up so bad it looked like a rave in my sink. Bubbles everywhere, all over the stand, my apron, the floor. Took me 20 minutes and 3 rags to clean up a tire change that should've taken 5. The bead did seat and it's still holding air at 25 psi two days later, so I guess it worked? Now I'm scared to use it on a road tire. What do you all use to get stubborn beads to pop, or am I the only one making suds in the shop?
