Update: I quit using my chain scrubber and the drivetrain is actually quieter now
Honestly I bought one of those chain scrubber tools 2 years ago because everyone said it was the fast way to clean a chain. Used it every couple rides on my commuter, spinning the pedals backward for like 5 minutes with the little brush thing clamped on. Last month my buddy at the shop in Portland watched me do it and said the scrubber just pushes grit deeper into the pins while the outside looks shiny. So I switched to pulling the chain off with a quick link, soaking it in a jar of mineral spirits for 20 minutes, and wiping each link with a rag. Ngl the chain runs way quieter now and I stopped going through a bottle of lube every 3 weeks. Has anyone else noticed the scrubber leaving that grey paste behind on the rollers or is it just my setup?
