Warning: A customer in my shop said he only cleans his chain once a year.
He brought in a gravel bike with a drivetrain so gritty it sounded like a pepper grinder, and he was proud of the 'savings'. I explained that a $10 bottle of lube and five minutes a month would have saved him the $150 he's about to pay for a new chain and cassette. How do you guys get through to people who think basic maintenance is a waste of money?

That "savings" mindset is wild. I read a bike mechanic blog that said you can't fix stubborn, you just gotta let the repair bill do the talking.

Man, that is so true. It's not just bikes, it's everything. People will fight you for an hour to avoid a twenty dollar fix, then turn around and waste a hundred bucks without blinking. It's like the small, clear cost feels like a personal failure, but wasting money in a bunch of hidden ways is fine. The repair bill isn't just a charge, it's a reality check they refused to give themselves.
