Watched a customer try to force a bottom bracket cup with a hammer and a 2x4
He was in our Denver shop last Tuesday, convinced his old cup was cross-threaded and needed a 'persuasion tap'. I stopped him and grabbed the Park Tool BBT-22 and a big adjustable wrench, using the wrench on the tool for extra leverage. The cup came out smooth with steady pressure, no damage to the frame or threads. How often do you guys see people one step away from turning a simple job into a frame replacement?

That "persuasion tap" is a classic move. It's like people see a stuck thing and their brain just goes straight to percussive maintenance. I see it all the time with folks trying to force stuff open at home, like a jar lid or a window that's painted shut. They skip the simple tricks and go right for the hammer, which usually just makes a bigger problem.

Oh man, I'm totally guilty of that. I once tried to "tap" a frozen lock open and just snapped the key off inside.
