Watching a kid true a wheel with an app last week made me miss the old beer can trick
Last week a new hire at the shop in Portland pulled out his phone to true a wheel instead of reaching for a spoke wrench and a feeler gauge. I get it, the app shows the wobble in slow motion, but 3 years ago we just spun the wheel and eyeballed it against the brake pads. He got it straight in 10 minutes, I'll give him that. But nobody taught him the beer can trick, where you cut a strip and tape it to the fork as a cheap gauge. Do any of you still teach the old eyeball methods, or is it all phone apps now?
