Gave that 6 hour true crime doc a shot after hating the genre, now I get it
Last Friday my buddy kept pushing this 6 part doc about a small town missing person case. I always hated true crime, felt too grim and exploitative. But he said the twist at episode 3 was worth it so I caved. Turns out the whole thing is more about the town falling apart than the crime itself. The interviews with neighbors hit way harder than I expected. I blew through all 6 episodes in one night and stayed up till 3am. What show flipped your opinion on a genre you normally skip?

Did the episode 3 twist actually make you rewatch the earlier episodes with fresh eyes? That's what got me with my genre changer. I used to roll my eyes at nature docs, thought they were all slow motion lions and boring voiceovers. Then I caught one about a single oak tree and how a whole forest ecosystem depends on it, and suddenly I cared about fungi and bird migrations more than any cop show. The shift from spectacle to story is what does it. It's wild how one good piece of work can make you forgive a whole genre you wrote off.
