I finally figured out why I keep rewatching 'The Great British Baking Show'
Last week I heard my neighbor's kid say he only watches shows with car chases and explosions. That got me thinking about why I've watched 'The Great British Baking Show' through three times now. It's not just the cakes and breads that keep me coming back. It's how calm everything is compared to most shows today. Nobody yells at each other and the biggest drama is a collapsed souffle. I realized I use it as a comfort thing after a long day of dealing with people at work. Has anyone else found a show that works like a calming reset button for them?

The Great British Baking Show is my go to calming show too. For me, it's like a warm blanket for my brain after a stressful day.

That warm blanket comparison is perfect, it really is. The show has no drama or backstabbing, just people being nice to each other while making pretty cakes. The tent lighting is so soft and the music is gentle, it hits a different part of your brain than most shows. Even the time constraints feel cozy because everyone is still supportive, not screaming at each other like in American cooking shows. It's basically the opposite of the news cycle, which is why I save it for Sundays. There is something about British people being politely stressed over a collapsed sponge that just resets my whole mood.
