I finally let my 7-year-old niece pick our next show and she chose a cartoon about a singing potato
We watched 12 episodes in a row last Saturday and I caught myself humming the theme song at the gym on Monday. Has anyone else had a kid completely hijack their watchlist with something surprisingly good?

Read an article about how kids' shows are getting better at sneaking in jokes for adults. My nephew got me hooked on a show about a team of animal astronauts, and the writing is way sharper than I expected. Now I'm the one asking if we can watch another episode.

The singing potato thing got me thinking about how kids' shows are almost like a secret language now. @thompson.tyler mentioned adult jokes, but I think it goes deeper than that. The best ones are actually teaching kids how to deal with real emotions without being preachy about it. My nephew watches this show about a grumpy cloud that learns to make friends, and it handles sadness and anger way better than most "educational" stuff aimed at kids. That singing potato show might be doing the same thing, hiding actual life lessons behind all the silly songs. It's weird how a cartoon can make you feel more than half the grown-up shows on Netflix.
