I finally watched my mom's 2004 recommendation of The Wire and she was right after 3 false starts
My mom kept telling me to watch The Wire back when it was still airing on HBO, and I ignored her for almost 20 years because I thought it was just another cop show. I tried episode 1 three separate times over the years and fell asleep twice, mostly because the pacing felt so slow compared to stuff like Breaking Bad. Then a buddy at work in Austin handed me his box set and said just push through the first 4 episodes, so I did. By episode 6 I was calling in sick to finish season 2, and I burned through all 60 episodes in about 3 weeks. What got me was how it never explains anything to you, you just pick up the street slang and the wiretap lingo by osmosis. My mom passed in 2019 so I can't even tell her she was right, which stings a little. Now I'm wondering what other show I wrote off too fast, does anyone have one they slept on for a decade?
