I was in a hotel in Des Moines and the TV guide was just a list of shows I'd already seen

It was all the same big hits from the last five years, nothing new. Made me realize how much I rely on word-of-mouth from places like this to find the good stuff. What's a show you loved that never seems to pop up on those default lists?

My hotel in Omaha last month had the same problem, just the same ten shows on every channel. The one that never makes those lists is a British show called Detectorists. It's about two guys with metal detectors looking for treasure in fields. The whole show is quiet and kind, no big drama, just people being decent to each other. It's the exact opposite of the loud, flashy stuff they always push. I found it because a friend wouldn't stop talking about it, and now I tell everyone.
