My brother told me to skip the first season of The Wire

He said it was slow and I should start with season two. I tried it his way and was totally lost for three episodes. The characters and storylines from season one are key to everything that comes later. I went back and watched the first season properly, and it made the whole show click. Now it's one of my favorite series of all time. Has anyone else gotten bad advice on where to start a show?

Yeah that's a wild take about The Wire. I mean season one sets up the whole game, you gotta know Avon and Stringer to get what happens later. Had a friend tell me to skip the first season of Parks and Rec cause it's rough, but it really shows how the characters start out. Watching it made the later jokes hit way harder for me.
