That friend who said 'just skip the first season' was dead wrong
My buddy Mark told me to skip season 1 of The Wire because it was too slow and jump straight to season 2. Turns out I missed half the character introductions and had no clue why anyone cared about Omar or Stringer Bell for like 5 episodes. Anyone else ever get bad advice from someone who swore they knew the best way to watch a show?

Mark was doing you a favor honestly. Season 1 of The Wire is a slog with all that dock stuff and the slow burn setup. Season 2 introduces the good characters anyway like Frank Sobotka and the whole Greek operation. You got the best parts of Stringer and Omar later without sitting through 12 hours of boring police procedural.

Wait, you really think the dock stuff in season 1 is a slog? I've seen people argue that's the whole point of the show, building the world from the ground up.
