That old Western series I skipped for 20 years finally got me good

I kept hearing about Deadwood for like two decades but always figured it was just another dusty cowboy show with slow build ups. Last month I ran out of stuff to watch and gave it a shot. Turns out I was dead wrong and that first season hooked me so hard I finished all three seasons in nine days. The language alone took me a good two episodes to even follow what they were saying. My buddy in Saint Paul who recommended it back in 2005 kept texting me laughing when I finally admitted he was right. Now I'm stuck wondering what other old shows I've been ignoring for way too long. Has anyone else had that one series they slept on for years and then regretted missing out?

Oh man, did you try The Wire yet? I slept on that show for like 15 years and when I finally watched it I was legit mad at myself for waiting so long.

Man same thing happened to me. I put it off for years because everyone hyped it up so much I figured it couldn't be that good. But once you get past the first few episodes where you're still learning all the characters and the street slang, it just clicks. My advice is to watch with subtitles on from the start, I know it sounds extra but it helps a ton with the Baltimore accents and the legal jargon. Also don't binge it too fast, give yourself a day or two between seasons to let it sink in. Your mileage may vary on the subtitle thing but it worked for me.
