The night I realized I was watching shows on 1.5x speed for no reason

Last Tuesday I was halfway through season 4 of some crime drama and I noticed everyone's voices sounded like chipmunks. I'd bumped the playback speed to 1.5x about 3 months ago because I thought I was saving time. Turns out I was just missing half the dialogue and ruining the music score completely. My buddy watched one episode with me and asked why I was rushing through it like I had a deadline. That's when it hit me that I wasn't enjoying anything I was just checking boxes off a list. Has anyone else accidentally left a speed setting on for way too long without realizing it?

My roommate once binged three seasons of a comedy show at double speed. Didn't even notice until I pointed out everyone sounded like they were on helium. She said she just wanted to "get through it" so she could talk about it with coworkers. Didn't even laugh at any of the jokes. Just finished it and felt empty.

Man that is brutal. I had a buddy who watched an entire drama series on fast forward because he got spoiled on the ending and just wanted to "see how they got there." He literally could not tell you what happened except for the last five minutes.
