Bookmarked a 2007 forum post about fixing a clogged toilet that still haunts me
Went back through my old bookmarks last night and found one from a plumbing forum circa 2007 where a guy described using a shop vac to unclog a toilet after a kid flushed a toy car. I never tried it myself but the mental image of him fishing a Hot Wheels out of a bucket of water is burned into my brain. Anyone else got a bookmark they keep around just because the story is too wild to delete?

Oh man, I totally get that. I've got an old bookmark from like 2008 where a guy on a woodworking forum documented his three-day battle to fix a vintage bandsaw he found in a barn. He had to soak bolts in kerosene for two days and used a blowtorch at one point. The story is way too good to delete, even if I'll never own a bandsaw that old. Yours sounds like a classic though, a Hot Wheels rescue mission is hard to beat.

Oh wow, that bandsaw story sounds like a saga... I love how people commit to these crazy projects. My bookmark is from a car forum where a guy rebuilt a transmission in his driveway using only YouTube videos and a cinder block. He posted updates for like three months and then just disappeared after saying he was "going to try starting it" and never posted again. I still wonder if that thing ever moved under its own power or if it grenaded on the first try. Sometimes I scroll back and read the whole thread just to imagine the tension of that moment. Those forgotten forum posts are like little time capsules of pure human stubbornness.
