I found a bookmark from 2019 for a site that just counts how many people are on Earth right now, and it still works
I was cleanin up my bookmarks bar last week and found a folder I made back in 2019 called "stuff to look at later." Most of the links were dead, like a GeoCities page for my old college radio station. But one still loaded: a plain white page with a giant number that ticks up every second. It shows the world population in real time. I sat there for like 10 minutes just watchin the last four digits roll over. The site hasn't changed at all since I first saved it 5 years ago. No ads, no popups, just the number and a tiny line at the bottom that says "based on UN estimates." Kinda wild that this one random bookmark outlasted everything else. What's the oldest bookmark in your browser that still actually loads?
wait, why do those old blogs always load so weird? mine is some guy's personal site from like 2004 about his boat and the guestbook still works somehow. the whole thing is just white text on a black background and there's a hit counter at the bottom that's stuck at 47,000. every image is broken except one tiny gif of a spinning anchor. i check it like once a month just to make sure it's still up, it's honestly kinda comforting.
