I still have a bookmark for a Geocities shrine to my cat from 2002

Back then I spent hours on dial-up making that page with sparkly GIFs and a midi of 'Wonderwall.' Now I just toss cat pics on Instagram and call it a day. My cat Mittens passed in 2008 but that bookmark is still sitting in my 'Old Stuff' folder. Anyone else keep ancient bookmarks for no real reason?

oh totally, I still have bookmarks from like 2005 for a fansite about that old cartoon ReBoot. never visit them but can't bring myself to delete them either, feels like deleting a part of history or something. kind of nice knowing they're still there in the folder, like little time capsules of who I used to be.

Yeah that "little time capsules" thing really hit me. I actually read somewhere recently that digital hoarding is becoming a real thing because we store all this stuff but never look at it again. I've got bookmark folders from 2004 full of Geocities pages about Star Fox fan theories that I always tell myself I'll go back and read someday but I know I never will. Still though, there's something comforting about knowing that old internet is still sitting there in the background of your browser, even if the sites are probably long gone.
