Saved a bookmark in 2011 for a site that tracks the Kensington Runestone, and now it loads a casino page
I was cleaning out old bookmarks on my laptop at the kitchen table in Fargo when I clicked one from 2011 about the Kensington Runestone, and it redirected me to a sketchy casino page instead. I grabbed the link from an old forum thread and pasted it into the Wayback Machine, and the 2013 version still loads the real page. Now I keep a note file with both links so I never lose it again. Does anyone else back up their weird old bookmarks, or am I the only one holding onto dead pages?
Oh man, that Wayback Machine save is clutch. I read a thing a while back about how something like a third of all links people bookmark end up dead or turned into spam pages within a few years, so archiving them yourself is honestly the move. Tbh I do the same thing for old local history stuff around here, anything about the runestone or the old woolen mill, and I keep the archive links in a plain text file on my desktop. Wild that the 2013 version still works fine while the live one got bought up and turned into casino garbage.
