That bookmark I saved 5 years ago finally paid off today
I had this random bookmark for a site called 'FixMyWaterHeater.com' from like 2019, and my hot water gave out this morning. The guide walked me through replacing the thermocouple in under an hour, saved me a $200 plumber call. Anybody else have a weird old bookmark suddenly come in clutch?

Bookmarks like that are just clutter most of the time, a five year old guide could be outdated or for a different model entirely. You got lucky this time, but relying on some random old page for something as important as a water heater is a gamble. Plumbing mistakes from bad instructions can cost way more than the $200 you think you saved.

idk man, a water heater isn't exactly rocket science. most of the basic stuff like turning off the gas or draining the tank hasn't changed in decades. maybe it's just me but a five year old guide is probably fine for the simple fix, not like you're rebuilding the whole thing from scratch.
