That one bookmark I saved about fixing a toilet flapper... took me 3 hours yesterday

I had a toilet running nonstop in my apartment in Austin, figured it was a quick fix. I bookmarked some random DIY site that claimed a 10 minute job but the flapper size was wrong for my old American Standard model. Ended up digging through 4 more bookmarks from forums before I found the right part number at a hardware store on East 6th.

Stick with Fluidmaster 555C for those older American Standard tanks.

Dude, how many bookmarks did you end up with by the time you fixed it? I had the same thing happen with a leaky fill valve in my 1950s house, ended up with 6 tabs open and a trip to two different hardware stores before I found one that actually fit. The worst part is half those DIY sites use universal parts that never work with older models like you said. Wish these forums had a sticky showing the exact flapper for American Standard 4021 tanks, would have saved me 2 hours of frustration.
