TIL my browser ate 300 of my bookmarks when I synced profiles, and a hidden HTML file got most of them back
Last Tuesday I set up sync on a second laptop and noticed my bookmark bar was nearly empty on the old machine, maybe 40 links left out of around 300. I panicked for a bit, then went digging in my user data folder and found a file called Bookmarks.bak sitting right next to the live one. I renamed the current file, copied the .bak in its place, and restarted the browser, and about 260 of the weird ones came back, including a site that just plays dial-up sounds. I lost maybe 20 newer saves but honestly the random stuff was what I cared about. Has anyone figured out a cleaner way to back these up on a schedule, or do I just keep copies on a flash drive like it is 2009?
