My old way of quenching was just asking for trouble

I used to dunk everything straight into a bucket of water, which led to more cracks than a dry riverbed. After a blade I spent 6 hours on snapped last Tuesday, I switched to using warm canola oil for my high carbon steel. Anyone else make a simple change that saved a project?

Man, switching to oil was a total game-changer for me too.

Water quenching works fine if you know your steel.
