Spent 60 bucks on a cheap anvil stand kit, should have just built one

Last month I ordered one of those bolt-together anvil stands off the internet, thought it would save me time. The base wobbles on my concrete floor even after I tightened everything twice, and the rubber pads already started splitting. I ended up welding a simple stand from scrap 2x4 tubing in an afternoon, cost me maybe 15 dollars in gas and wire. Has anyone else had better luck with a homemade stand versus the store bought ones, or am I just cursed with bad luck?

A lot of folks overlook how much the floor itself matters. My garage slab has a slight crown in one spot, so even a perfect stand will rock unless you shim it or grind the high point down. The rubber pads splitting is a sign they used cheap material, but honestly a couple of layers of old conveyor belt or a scrap tire work way better and last longer. Your welded one is probably the smarter move, just saying the store bought kit might not have been the whole problem.
