TIL the old timer at the flea market in Reno sold me a 'railroad spike' that was actually a bent tent stake
Last Saturday I handed this guy $8 for what he swore was a genuine 1800s spike off the Central Pacific. Got it home, hit it on the anvil once, and it folded like taffy because it was cheap mild steel. Then I noticed the stake eye on the head he'd ground down and painted black. Now it sits on my bench as a reminder to look twice. What's the worst junk steel someone ever passed off on you?
