Appreciation post: My local game night group proved me wrong about heavy euros
I always thought complex games were just for show-offs. Then last Tuesday at the library in Greenville, they set up a game called Brass Birmingham. The teach took 45 minutes, but by round three it clicked. Watching everyone quietly plan their moves, then cheer when someone pulled off a combo, changed my whole view. Anyone else have a game that won them over after a bad first impression?

Yeah, I felt the same way about Terraforming Mars. The cards looked overwhelming but once you play a round it just makes sense.

Totally, that first look at the deck is a real wall of text. It's the kind of game where you just have to dive in and get your hands dirty. After a few turns, you stop reading every word on the cards and start just seeing the symbols and the numbers. The game does a great job of teaching you by playing, way better than any rulebook could. It goes from looking impossible to feeling pretty smooth surprisingly fast.

Wait, you learned Terraforming Mars in one round? That took me three games to stop feeling lost.
