DAE realize they were teaching new players wrong until a guy in Dallas called me out?
So I used to run teach nights at my local shop in Dallas, and for like 2 years I was doing the classic thing where I explained every rule and edge case before anyone touched a piece. One night a guy named Marcus, who runs a meetup group, sat through my 15 minute rules dump and then said straight up: "You just talked for 15 minutes and nobody knows how to play yet." That stung because he was right. I had been front loading all this info and watching new people glaze over, then wondering why half of them never came back for week 2. So I flipped it, played one open round with hands up where I just answered stuff as it came up, and suddenly people were INTO it and asking good questions. Turns out rules dumps are killing our hobby more than any heavy game ever could. How do you all handle teach nights, do you dump rules first or just start playing?
