I mean, I used to scoff at legacy games until one changed my whole view

For a long time, I avoided legacy style games because the idea of permanently changing components felt wasteful to me. Then my game group started a space themed one, and the story choices and evolving board state hooked me hard. Maybe it's just me, but now I see how they make each play session feel special and personal. What game mechanics have you guys done a full flip on after trying them out?

Totally get where you're coming from. I wrote off worker placement games as boring for years. Then I played one where you're building a medieval village, and the way your choices build up over the game clicked for me. Watching my little engine of workers finally pay off changed my whole tune. Now I'm the one suggesting them.

I wish I had that moment, but they still feel like busywork to me.

Oh man, deck builders were my big turn around. I thought they'd just be random and annoying, but then I played one where you really feel your deck get stronger each round. That slow build up of power completely won me over.
