Just realized I was storing my games completely wrong for years
I always kept my board game boxes standing up like books on a shelf. Figured it looked neat and saved space. Then last week I opened my copy of Castles of Burgundy and all the tokens were mixed into one giant pile at the bottom. The insert was totally useless. My buddy laughed and told me I should store them flat so the pieces stay in their compartments. Now I gotta reorganize my whole Kallax setup. Anyone else make this mistake for way too long?

Honestly man, I've been storing mine vertical for like 8 years and it works fine for me. I think the problem is more about the insert quality than the orientation. Some games like Castles of Burgundy have terrible inserts that don't hold anything in place even if you store them flat. I use a mix of baggies and foam core inserts for my vertical storage and nothing moves around at all. Plus horizontal stacking means you can't get to the game you want without moving 4 other boxes off the top. Vertical is way more practical for accessing stuff quickly and seeing your collection at a glance.

I've had the opposite experience man, vertical storage wrecked the insert in my Agricola after just a couple years, and now tokens fall everywhere every time I open it. Horizontal stacking might be annoying for access but at least your components stay where you put them.
