My friend insisted I should sleeve every card in my new game collection

When I bought my first big board game, Gloomhaven, my friend Mark told me I had to sleeve all 1,500 cards to protect them. He said it was a basic rule for any serious collector. I spent over $80 on sleeves and an entire weekend putting them on. After six months of play, I realized the cards we use most are still fine, but the sleeves make the decks huge and hard to shuffle. I think the advice was well-meaning but wrong for how I actually play. Has anyone else found that sleeving everything is more trouble than it's worth?

What do you actually handle a lot? I only sleeve the cards we constantly touch, like the attack modifier deck in Gloomhaven. The rest stay bare and it saves so much time and bulk.

It's like that with so many things, only putting effort where it really matters.
