My game group told me I was being a 'rules lawyer' and it was killing the fun.
We were playing a new game, and I kept stopping to check the rulebook for every tiny detail. After the game, my friend Mark said, 'Avery, you're right, but we're not in a tournament. Let's just make a call and keep playing.' I realized I was focusing on being correct instead of having a good time. Now, for casual nights, I suggest we agree on a house rule for any gray area and look it up later. Has anyone else had to dial back their own rule-checking habits?

Totally get where you're coming from. I used to do the same thing, like stopping a game to argue about line of sight for ten minutes. It just kills the mood for everyone. Your fix is a good one, just making a quick call to keep things moving. I had to learn that a fun wrong rule is way better than a boring correct one.

Fun wrong rule" is a great way to put it.

Didn't I read somewhere that actual pro game designers keep a backup rulebook just for quick rulings?
