Overheard two guys at my local game store arguing if Monopoly is actually a good game or if it's just nostalgia

One guy said Monopoly teaches real negotiation skills and the other said it's just a random dice roller that takes 4 hours too long, so which side really has a point here?

Jumping in here because I have a whole history with this game honestly. I mean, I used to have family game nights where Monopoly would drag on so long my uncle would literally start making up new rules just to end it faster. So idk, I lean more toward the dice roller side because it feels like whoever gets lucky with the dice early on just stomps everyone else into the dust for the next three hours. Maybe it's just me but the negotiation part only really works if everyone is in a good mood and not already bitter about landing on Boardwalk with a hotel. It's a classic but man it's more of a friendship tester than a skill tester.

But luck early on can be outplayed with smart trades and holding onto cash for auctions. I've seen people come back from almost nothing just by making deals nobody else thought of.
