That time a local designer pointed out my board game box art was cluttered as heck
I spent 6 months making this intricate fantasy scene for my game's cover, but a designer at a con told me 'your eye can't rest anywhere on this.' She showed me how to use negative space and simplify the focal point. Has anyone else gotten a hard critique that totally flipped how you approach your game's visual design?

Used to think that meant my art was too simple or lazy. Now I see it's actually way harder to make a clean, effective design than a cluttered one.

And it's like that thing where you spend an hour picking the perfect font, @ross.jason, and someone just says "oh that looks nice" with zero idea it took 30 tries to find the right one. The clean stuff looks effortless but every tiny detail has to be exactly right or it falls apart completely.
