Tried teaching my non-gamer mom Catan and she crushed us all

I set it up thinking she'd need help, but after one round she started trading like a pro and won with 10 points. It turns out her bridge club strategy works way better than my usual plan. Do you think some games just click with people who don't play much?

Sounds like your mom's bridge club is a secret training ground for world domination. My aunt did the same thing with Ticket to Ride, she just crushed everyone because she's good at planning trips. Some people just have a mind for that kind of puzzle, and regular board games don't train you for it. Never underestimate a person who spends their free time thinking about trump suits and trick counts, they are scary good at reading a table.
