Went to a new board game cafe in Springfield and the vibe was... different

I checked out The Rolling Dice Cafe last weekend, and it was packed. But I noticed almost every table was playing the same three big games, like Gloomhaven and Twilight Imperium. It felt more like a tournament hall than a place to try new stuff. The owner said those games rent out for $15 a session and they make most of their money from them. It made me wonder if cafes are pushing complex games because they're more profitable. Has anyone else seen a spot where the game selection feels driven by cash instead of community?

My buddy tried to open a small game spot a few years back. He said the math was brutal, that he needed those long-rental games just to keep the lights on. It kinda killed his love for it, watching people just grind the same expensive titles. Places like that can start to feel like a vending machine for game time, not a hangout.

Vending machine for game time" is a perfect way to put it. I used to think those places were cool until I heard the same story.
