Air arc vs. grinder on a 2-inch fillet weld, I chose wrong first

Had to remove a bad 2-inch fillet on a pressure vessel shell in Baton Rouge, and I grabbed the air arc instead of spending 10 minutes with a grinder. The carbon rod dug in and blew through the base metal, so I had to build it back up and grind anyway. Anyone else stuck with air arc when a grinder would've been cleaner on thin plate?
