Fitter marks with soapstone drive me nuts on site
Watched three fitters at the Mobil refinery in Beaumont lay out the same header twice because nobody squared up off the centerline first. They just eyeballed from the flange and then blamed the 2-inch gap on the pipe. I spend five extra minutes with a chalk line and a 4-foot level, and my weld joints line up first try every time. Why skip the layout step when it costs you an hour of grinding later, or am I the only one who treats the tape like it's sacred?
