Swapped out a tube bundle last month and learned this the hard way (real embarrassing when the foreman finds out you skipped the step). I was in a rush so I just tacked the new sheet on without checking, and the firetube gaps were way off. Had to grind the welds out and start over, which took twice as long as just measuring in the first place. So yeah, definitely measure those clearances before you strike an arc. Your future self will thank you, plus you won't have to explain to the boss why there's a delay.
