That Friday shift where everything went wrong from start to finish
Last week I showed up to a job site and the prints were wrong, the crane was late, and my helper called in sick all in the first hour. Spent the whole day chasing parts and fixing other people's mistakes instead of getting any real work done. Any of you guys have a day where you just should have stayed in bed?

Then you start the day with that gut feeling something's off, and it just snowballs. You spend the first two hours on the phone with the supplier trying to figure out why the materials don't match the blueprints, and by then the sun's already halfway up. The crane finally shows up at 10 but the operator's never worked your site before, so you're basically directing traffic instead of framing. Meanwhile your phone's blowing up from three different subs asking where you are and when you'll be done. Best part is you get home exhausted, covered in drywall dust, and realize you forgot to eat lunch. Those are the days you wonder why you didn't just take the hint and roll over when the alarm went off.

Wait, you actually make it sound like a war story and I'm honestly reconsidering my whole take on this. I used to think people who complained about construction site chaos were just exaggerating or maybe not cut out for the pace, you know? But reading this, it's like every single thing that can go wrong does, and it all stacks on top of each other until you're just surviving the day. The part about forgetting to eat lunch hit me hard because that's not even a work problem, that's your body giving up on you too. I guess I never really understood how much of the job is just herding cats and putting out fires, not actually building stuff. Honestly, next time I see a crew working late, I'm gonna cut them way more slack in my head.
