That old timer at the union hall swore by using a 7-inch grinder for gouging out cracks in tube sheets

I spent two hours fighting with a 4.5-inch wheel on a superheater panel last month before I finally borrowed a 7-inch from a guy in the next bay and it cut through the membrane in half the time, so has anyone else run into a situation where a bigger tool actually made the job easier or did I just pick the wrong wheel to begin with?

Did you try a thinner wheel on that 4.5 before switching up?

Were you using a standard cutoff wheel or a proper thin kerf blade on that 4.5?
