That old welder who showed me how to lay a bead with a stick on a 6-inch pipe taught me more in 5 minutes than I learned in a whole year on my own
We were at a refinery job in Baton Rouge back in 2019 and he just handed me his rod, said 'stop fighting the arc and let it breathe,' then walked away, has anyone else had a random mentor moment like that on site?

Jeez, 'stop fighting the arc and let it breathe'... that line alone is worth more than half the welding certs out there. I bet you remember the exact sound of his voice when he said it too, don't you? Those old timers have this way of cutting through all the noise and getting right to the heart of what you're doing wrong. I swear, sometimes the best lessons come from the grumpiest guys who couldn't care less about impressing you.

Remembered that old timer from the shop floor @elliot_lane96, told me the same thing while I was burning through a quarter inch plate on a Tuesday...
