TIL the hard way about welding rod storage on a barge job last month
Left a box of 7018 rods out overnight on a river barge near Paducah, and by morning they were soaked through. Had to toss the whole box - $80 down the drain. Anybody got a reliable dry rod oven they swear by for wet river work?

The 7018 rods are unforgiving with moisture. Picked up a cheap propane-powered rod oven from Northern Tool a few years back, and it keeps them crusty dry even on the muggiest river mornings. That little investment paid for itself in about two boxes of wasted rods.

Man I just keep a five gallon bucket of rice in the corner of the shop and bury my rods in it overnight. Works great til someone mistakes it for snacktime and I'm left explaining to the new guy why he shouldn't eat the welding supplies. Your propane oven sounds way smarter than my hillbilly setup but where's the fun in not risking a mouthful of flux?
