Took me 7 hours to figure out a boiler pressure issue that was just a clogged vent line

I was troubleshooting this low pressure problem on a Cleaver-Brooks unit last Thursday. Kept thinking it was a failed pump or a bad regulator. After swapping parts and chasing my tail for a full shift, I finally blew out the vent line with compressed air and it fired right up. Anyone else ever waste a day on something that simple?

Hold your horses here. If you'd spent 30 minutes reading the manual instead of 7 hours wrenching, you'd have seen the vent line maintenance schedule on page 42.

@cameron770 has a point about checking the manual, but I think the bigger issue here is that those vent line schedules are hard to find unless you already know where to look. The index in that manual is a mess, and page 42 is buried in a section about cooling systems, not maintenance. A lot of us were taught to fix things as we go, not to stop reading for half an hour first. Maybe the real fix here is making those manuals easier to navigate so people actually find the right info before they start working. Otherwise, we will keep seeing this same problem over and over.
