Visited a refinery in Baton Rouge last week and noticed something about their old boiler setup

They had this 1970s era boiler still running like a champ, no fancy digital controls on it. The lead guy showed me how they tweak the fuel-air mix by hand based on the steam pressure gauge. Has anyone else worked on older units that just refuse to die?

Manual adjustments just add unnecessary risk and inefficiency compared to modern automated systems.

Read a study once that said manual boilers actually last longer than digital ones.
