Had to pick between linen thread and synthetic for a 1920s novel restoration

I was rebinding a 1920s novel for a client last week and got stuck deciding between linen thread (traditional look) or synthetic (stronger hold). I went with linen because the book was already fragile, but halfway through the stitching the thread snapped twice on me. Do you guys stick with tradition even when it makes the job harder?

Snapped two waxed threads myself last week, makes you wonder why we bother sometimes.

Snapped two threads on a 1908 Dickens last month. Tradition is great until you're picking thread out of your teeth.
