Question about using PVA vs. wheat paste for a 19th century ledger repair
Ngl, I chose wheat paste for its flexibility on the brittle, 200-page ledger from my local archive, and after letting it cure for a full day, the spine feels way more forgiving than my usual PVA mix.

Yeah, wheat paste is the move for old paper. It just ages better without getting brittle like PVA can.

My buddy tried fixing a family Bible with PVA. The spine looked good at first, but five years later the pages wouldn't even open flat. He had to redo the whole thing with wheat paste, which worked way better on that old, thick paper.
