Rant: My old glue pot versus the new one from Talas

Used a cheap electric glue pot for years, always had issues with the glue skinning over. Got the Talas 110 last month. Holds the temperature within 2 degrees, glue stays perfect for hours. Anyone have tips for cleaning the old gunk out of my old pot to keep it as a backup?

Ugh, the glue skinning over is the worst. I had the same battle with my old pot, constantly fishing out that weird rubbery film. For the gunk, try heating a little white vinegar in it, then gently scraping with a wooden stick once it's soft. That usually breaks up the stubborn stuff without scratching the pot.

That rubbery film is the worst part. I've had luck with a drop of cooking oil on top of the glue before closing it, stops the skin from forming in the first place.

and that vinegar trick is honestly solid advice, but it's wild how much this glue drama mirrors the whole 'let things sit and they get crusty' pattern in life, right? like you let a pot of glue sit too long and it skins over, let a jar of paint sit too long and it separates, even sauce in the fridge does the same thing if you don't stir it. @umamoore's oil trick is smart because it's basically a proactive move against that natural entropy. it's the same reason you stir your yogurt or shake your salad dressing - everything wants to settle into a gross film given enough time.
