TIL a cheap wallpaper scraper is my new favorite bone folder
I was working on a leather-bound journal last week and my usual bone folder just wasn't getting a sharp enough crease on the heavier stock. I grabbed a 3-inch metal wallpaper scraper from my garage, the kind with a rounded plastic handle, and it worked perfectly. The thin, stiff blade gave me way more control for scoring and folding without tearing the paper. Has anyone else tried using a tool from a totally different trade like this?

That bit about the thin, stiff blade giving more control makes total sense. My fancy scoring tool broke last month and I've been using a putty knife. It's the same idea. Those cheap hardware store tools are way tougher than craft store stuff. Sometimes the perfect tool is already in your junk drawer.

Yeah, @annaw76, that's so true. I've found the same thing with kitchen tools. My favorite dough scraper is just a piece of cut plastic from an old binder, and it works better than any fancy one I've bought. It feels like a lot of specialized products are just overbuilt versions of a simple, sturdy idea.
