Update: I tried using a 1-inch binder's needle on a 400-page text block and snapped it clean in half.

The thread was too thick, and I learned the hard way that needle size isn't just about the hole. Anyone have a go-to brand for heavy signatures?

Feel that pain, just did the same thing last week. Started using curved needles for the really thick sections and it's a total game changer. Takes some practice to get the motion right but the curve helps you navigate through all the layers. John James makes a solid one that hasn't failed me yet on big projects.

I've always found curved needles to be a bit awkward, honestly.
